How to convert centimetres to metres
- Take the value in centimetres.
- Multiply by 0.01 (because 1 cm = 0.01 m).
- Example: 50 cm × 0.01 = 0.5 m.
- Going back: divide by 0.01, or multiply by 100.
Where this comes up
Divide by 100. The common slip is the other way: 1.5 m is 150 cm, not 15 cm. Fabric is sold by the metre but measured in centimetres on the counter, so 2.5 m of cloth is 250 cm.
