JNTU CGPA to Percentage Calculator

JNTU Hyderabad and JNTU Kakinada do not use the same conversion rule, even though both descend from the single JNTU that was split in 2008. JNTUH subtracts 0.5 before multiplying by 10; JNTUK subtracts 0.75. A CGPA of 8.2 is therefore 77.0% on a JNTUH marks memo and 74.5% on a JNTUK one — a 2.5-point gap that matters at every 60% and 65% eligibility cut-off.

Where each rule comes from

JNTUH. The B.Tech Academic Regulations (R22), clause 11.2, read: "For final percentage of marks equivalent to the computed final CGPA, the following formula may be used. % of Marks = (final CGPA − 0.5) × 10." The R16 and R18 booklets carry the same clause, so the rule holds for every JNTUH batch admitted since 2016.

JNTUK. The conversion certificate JNTUK issues through its examination section states Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, and that is the figure every JNTUK source agrees on for R16, R19, R20 and R23. We have not yet been able to read the R20 regulation booklet itself, which is why the JNTUK figure is labelled as certificate-based rather than clause-based above.

JNTUA (Anantapur) is not offered in this calculator. Sources disagree on whether Anantapur follows the Hyderabad or the Kakinada deduction, and its regulation booklets were not reachable when this page was checked. Use the clause on "percentage equivalent to CGPA" in your own R20 or R23 booklet, or ask your examination section for the conversion certificate.

Check the issuing university, not the city

Colleges affiliated to JNTUH sit across Telangana and colleges affiliated to JNTUK across coastal Andhra, but what decides the rule is the university named on your consolidated marks memo. A student who moved between the two states still converts under the university that issued the memo.

Do not borrow a formula from another Telangana university

Osmania University, in the same state as JNTUH, has not approved any official conversion formula — the three rules in circulation for it (× 10, × 10 − 7.5 and × 9.5) disagree by up to 25 percentage points. Whatever number a friend at OU is quoting, it did not come from a university notification, and it does not apply to a JNTU marks memo.

The aggregate percentage for PSU and GATE applications

PSU recruitment through GATE almost always asks for the aggregate percentage of all semesters. For JNTU students this means the converted final CGPA, covering every semester of the programme — not the final year alone and not the best of the semesters. Lateral-entry students compute over the semesters actually studied, typically six rather than eight.

If a form asks separately for "percentage as per university conversion formula" and "CGPA", fill both. Leaving the CGPA field blank when you have one invites a query at verification.

Correction

Until 18 September 2026 this page said all three JNTU campuses use (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. That was wrong for JNTUH, whose regulation specifies 0.5. The entry is recorded on our corrections page.
